Breast augmentation (breast enlargement) is the most popular cosmetic surgery worldwide. There are many reasons why women choose the procedure, in the majority of cases: after loosing a significant amount of weight some women observe losing cup size; post-pregnancy and breastfeeding result in lose of skin elasticity and cup size; ageing causes looser skin also around breast. To sum up feeling dissatisfied with the size and shape of breasts, feeling unwomanly and sometimes without self-esteem with current look of their breasts, many women decide to undergo breast enlargement.
Implant can be filled with saline or silicone. Saline implants have a tendency to leak, and implants made of saline are harder and more perceptible. Silicone implants can be filled with liquid or cohesive gel silicone. Silicone implants are considered safer and more durable. There are many sizes and shapes of implants. The most popular are round and teardrop (so-called anatomical) implants. Interested in breast enlargement surgery? Contact us! It is always a good idea to make the final decision about the size and the shape of implants together with the plastic surgeon. Well-chosen implants should be perceptible as natural breasts. Breast enlargement takes about 60 minutes and is performed under general anaesthesia. During the surgery, a surgeon inserts and properly places the earlier chosen type of implant.
There are 3 common incisions performed: in the crease under the breast, around the areola or in the armpit. From an oncological perspective, the best incision is the one performed under the breast and implant placement under the muscle as it does not harm the breast gland. In the future a woman has the ability to breastfeed.
Depending on how much skin tissue a patient has on her chest, an implant can be placed either under the muscle or under the gland.
After the surgery, the patient should stay in the clinic at least 2 nights. It should be enough to remove drains after that time. During the first week, the patient feels pain and discomfort, which can be controlled with painkillers. During the first 6 weeks, it is necessary to wear a special bra. Some surgeons recommend also wearing a special band above the breasts. Depending on the surgeon, there can be dissolvable or non dissolvable stitches (non dissolvable stitches should usually be removed after 8-12 days). In case of office workers, 1 week off work is recommended, whereas in case of manual workers, 2 weeks off work is recommended. It is normal for the swelling to take even up to a few weeks to completely resolve. Some patients also experience loss of sensitivity in their nipples, this is temporary. Scars should flatten out and lighten in colour within a few months, about 3 weeks after the surgery incision should be treated with special ointments that help to heal the scars.
Breast augmentation is a safe procedure. Nevertheless each surgery caries risks. In case of breast enlargement there is a risk of bruising, swelling, difference in nipple sensation, bleeding, infection or capsular contracture. All risks connected with undergoing the surgery should be discussed with your surgeon during direct assessment.
Breast augmentation helps women to feel womanly again, confident, sexy and restores lost self-esteem.
